AI and voice notice
Last updated 22 October 2026 · version 2026-10-22
Preview draft, pending legal review. This notice describes how voice and AI features work in the preview today. We will update it before anything here changes.
This notice is part of our Privacy Policy (https://sumone.app/legal/privacy). It covers voice, assisted answers and Enhance with AI in the Sum∗ suite apps (the "Apps"), published by Janisis, Inc.
1. Device voice (the default)
By default, the App hears you and speaks back using your device's own speech services. Your voice, your words and the replies stay on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to any AI provider.
2. Suite voice (off until you turn it on)
Suite voice is a paid feature. During the preview you may have it at no charge. It is off until you turn on "Use Suite voice" in Voice settings. When it is on, these things travel through our servers:
- To ElevenLabs, our speech provider: audio of what you say, so it can be turned into text. This happens when Suite voice leads, or when your device cannot make out what you said.
- To ElevenLabs: the text of each spoken reply, so it can be read aloud. A reply can include figures from your records, such as a total the App worked out for you.
- To Anthropic, our AI provider: what you said, as text (up to 600 characters). Also your last 10 exchanges (up to 500 characters each), and the App, today's date, your language and your currency. This lets the assistant understand your question and word the answer.
Your ledger records are not sent. The App works the figures out on your device.
3. Summaries for the assistant (separate choice, off by default)
If you also turn on "Show summaries to the assistant", then when you ask a question about your money, the App sends Anthropic a short summary for the period you asked about:
- up to 20 totals, each with a category name and currency; and
- up to 10 counts, each with a category name.
It never sends account numbers, statements or documents. Summaries travel only when you ask such a question. Category names can be revealing (for example "Pharmacy"), so turn this on only if you are comfortable with that.
4. Enhance with AI (separate choice, off by default)
Enhance with AI looks up the business behind a transaction. When it is on, it also runs in the background for new transactions, without a tap.
For each transaction it sends Ntropy the description as your bank wrote it, the amount, date, direction (money in or out), currency and country. We send this under one shared identifier for our whole service, not one for you. Some lookups also go to Plaid's enrichment service, Google and the Australian Business Register. The Subprocessors notice (https://sumone.app/legal/subprocessors) has details.
Bank descriptions can include people's names. Turn this off in Settings to stop all such lookups.
5. What we keep, and what we ask our providers to keep
- Our servers: we do not store your audio, the reply text or assistant requests. Our logs record only whether a request worked. We keep a monthly count of voice turns for each account. We keep business lookup results in a shared cache.
- Anthropic: under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not train its models on content we send. It may keep requests for a limited period, currently up to 30 days, or longer if a request is flagged for a safety review. We are arranging terms so requests are kept no longer than needed.
- ElevenLabs: reply text is sent with ElevenLabs' logging turned off. Audio for speech-to-text is not yet sent that way, so ElevenLabs' standard terms apply to it. Those terms may let ElevenLabs keep audio for a period and use it to improve its services. We are turning on ElevenLabs' training opt-out and arranging no-retention terms for audio.
- Ntropy: we are confirming with Ntropy how long it keeps what we send and whether it uses it to improve its models.
We do not train AI models on your records or your voice.
6. Not advice, and it can be wrong
- The App works out figures from your records. AI understands your question and words the answer.
- AI can mishear you, misunderstand you, or word an answer wrongly. Speech recognition can get numbers, names and dates wrong.
- The assistant is built not to recommend financial products, investments or tax positions. It can still get this wrong.
- Answers are general information, not financial, tax or legal advice. They do not consider your objectives or needs. Check important figures against your bank and records before you act.
- The assistant asks you to confirm before it changes your records. It cannot move money.
7. Reporting a wrong answer
Tap "That's not right" on any answer. You can add a short note about what you expected.
- The report keeps what you said, the answer, and how it was understood. It never keeps your balances or rows.
- When you report an answer, the learned phrasing behind it stops being used.
- Learned phrasings: when the assistant works out a new way of asking, the App keeps the shape of the question, not your figures, so it can answer on the device next time.
- Reports and learned phrasings are part of your ledger and sync end-to-end encrypted across your devices. We see a report only if you export it and send it to us.
- You can see them in Voice settings. You can also report a problem to support@sumone.app.
8. Your choices
- Use Suite voice: turn on or off in Voice settings. Off means voice stays on your device.
- Show summaries to the assistant: turn on or off in Voice settings.
- Enhance with AI: turn on or off in Settings.
Turning a feature off stops future sending straight away.
